Condo On Anna Maria Island

We stayed at Terry’s condo and had a fantastic time! It was very clean and the location was perfect. We rented cruising bikes and biked around the island, enjoying the local water activities like parasailing, jet-skiing, sailing and a dolphin/sunset cruise. And there were so many great places to eat and enjoy lively entertainment as well as beautiful sunsets! Thank you Terry, for being such a great host!

A Special Thank You to Jason Melendy For His Awesome Review – Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals

Paradise Found!!!

Stars: 5

We will definitely be returning to Anna Maria Island for a vacation, hopefully to this very same property. The property manager, Terry, has a wealth of knowledge about the island from attractions to restaurants. He is a polite and timely individual. As soon as payment was received he communicated everything we needed, there was no waiting or asking him to provide anything. The rental unit was immaculate. Everything inside was brand new, from appliances to flooring to bedding. Everything was fresh and new! The view of the bay was first rate. We watched the sunrise every morning from the balcony. Our kids were really impressed watching the draw bridge go up and down. They were even more excited when they spotted dolphins. You can even see the occasional fish jump. Outside the unit the property was well kept and neat, the unit comes with two parking spots, that doesn’t happen very often. The dock is great for boat watching or fishing. If you are into fishing, some charters will even pick you up dockside. The pool was warm and big enough so the kids aren’t on top of each other. Deck chairs are also plentiful. The beach is easily accessible you can walk there in less than two minutes. The sand and swimming were perfect. Being where we were the beach wasn’t crowded like at the more public sections. With-in ten minutes walk you are at historic bridge street. Gift shops and restaurant abound there. Go to the end of the pier and you can rent fishing rods and bait. My son and I spent a morning there caught more than a few fish and took some really nice pics 🙂 Overall this was a great place to stay, would recommend to anyone with a family 🙂

Bring on the Sunshine, the Sand, and the ICE CREAM

“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream, and that’s kind of the same thing”. 🍦🍚
For our family these two are the same thing and our vacation would not be complete without ice cream from our favourite ice cream parlour, Island Scoops. Ice cream is synonymous with leisure and comfort and just thinking about it makes me smile.

Imagine sharing your Anna Maria Island vacation photos with your friends on Instagram or Facebook — photos of relaxing beach days, smouldering sunsets, and
melting ice cream cones.
ice-cream-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
People with a sweet tooth (that’s me) may have at one point stood in an ice cream shop looking at the delicious flavours and watching the smiling faces of everyone that enters, because really — who doesn’t love ice cream? Ice cream is a category that makes people smile. Research from neuroscientists at the Institute of Psychiatry in London found that eating ice cream makes you happy, that just one spoonful lights up the happy zones of the brain.

At our local ice cream shop in Bradenton Beach, February 1st brought lots of smiles, all those smiles can be contributed to ice cream. This popular ice cream shop welcomed new owners Julie Kirkwood and Walter Loos. The name has now changed from Cream of AMI to Island Scoops, but the one thing that didn’t change is their ice cream. They are continuing to serve Big Olaf, Florida’s best Homemade Ice Cream. Big Olaf Ice Cream is made with the finest ingredients, hand mixed by local Amish craftsmen and churned in batch freezers then sold for us to enjoy! The shop itself has the usual traditional look, but what they serve is what we love.
ice-cream-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Island Scoops has so many ice cream flavours to choose from, plus rotating flavours, as well as sugar free and dairy free options. Looking for other sweet treats? Try their floats, malts, milkshakes, banana splits, sundaes and new vintage sodas like, Frostie Root Beer and Dog n Suds Root Beer. And, if you cannot live on ice cream alone, Island Scoops offers baked goods, including fresh baked cookies, brownies, cupcakes, pies and cakes.

The new owners, Kirkwood and Loo, also own Segs by the Sea and Book a Little Sunshine at 102 Bridge Street, Bradenton Beach. Segs by the Sea offers Segway tours of the island, and Book a Little Sunshine offers tours, activities and rentals. Additionally Book a Little Sunshine offers all guests of Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals discounts on tours, activities, beach rentals, baby rentals and more. With all three businesses linked to tourism and within walking distance of each other, this recent acquisition seems like a good fit. The line-ups we witnessed last week seemed proof that the ice-cream business will be just as successful as their others.

Island Scoops is open from 1:00 – 10:00 pm seven days a week.

beach-work-out-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals

Beach Workout – Anna Maria Island, Florida

You’ve arrived at your destination, beautiful Anna Maria Island and are looking forward to a wonderful holiday. You are anticipating white sandy beaches, sunny weather, and delicious cocktails. Your only concern is — maintaining your fitness while enjoying your holiday. Being on vacation doesn’t mean you have to skip your workout. A beach workout is a perfect way to start your day. Some simple beach workouts will have you looking and feeling amazing from the day you arrive until the day you leave.

When you’re staying with Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals you can take advantage of the beautiful coastal scenery and do your workouts at the beach. The fresh salt air, the feel of the sun on your skin as well as the added resistance of the sand are the makings for a better and more efficient workout.
An added bonus — once your beach workout is complete, instead of hitting the shower you can jump into the ocean for a refreshing cool off.
Well there is no equipment needed for excellent beach workouts, please don’t forget to apply your sunscreen and stay well hydrated!
Here are some suggestions that are sure to help you meet your fitness goals while not imposing on your relaxing vacation.
swimming-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Swimming
You can definitely get a sweat on in the water. You probably already have your swimsuit on so hit the beach and make a splash! Take advantage of your beach vacation with the added benefit of working out on a liquid treadmill in the refreshing Gulf of Mexico. And, I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the beautiful Florida weather than a workout in the water. A swimming workout is easy on your joints, bones and muscles, burns calories and firms every muscle in your body. It is also known to relieve stress and tension while refreshing and renewing us. And, don’t forget to bring your beach chair along so after your workout you can pick the perfect spot to sit back and relax.
running-on-the-beach-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Running
Running is a popular type of exercise on the Florida beach and running on the sand is much different and harder than it is on cement or the treadmill. Running on beach sand will be a workout your body isn’t used to, making it more effective.
Barefoot or shoes? You will see a mix of runners, some choose to wear shoes, although many prefer to run barefoot. Running barefoot allows you to use your whole foot enabling your feet to move through their natural range of motion. This can help strengthen different muscles, but pay attention to any unusual aches or pains you may experience especially if you have plantar fasciitis, ankle injuries, or any lower leg problems. For those that like to run barefoot, be careful of fish hooks, sharp shells and broken glass.
Wet sand or dry sand? Wet, hard sand creates a dense, stable surface. Soft sand creates a higher level of instability, which makes you work harder.
If you choose to wear your shoes on the beach, you can run in the soft sand you work harder and have lots of sand in each shoe when you’re done or you go for the hard sand while trying not to get your shoes wet.
You can also consider running in the water. What a feeling you get with the water splashing up on your legs as you run. Plus, the bonus of slightly firmer footing than the loose sand further up on the beach.
An added perk to beach running — the cool beach breeze blowing on your face giving you a continuous cool down effect.
beach-walking-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Walking
Walking on the sand isn’t easy. Scientists say it takes 2.1-2.7 times more energy to walk or run on the sand than it does to move at the same pace on hard surfaces. You know the feeling … you take a step forward, your foot sinks into the sand and shifts as you push a little harder trying to get a little traction. Yep, that energy you are using strengthens the muscles between your feet and back, especially your calves, quadriceps and glutes. So, as you are enjoying your next beach walk, remember, you are really working those muscles. And, the dryer the sand, the harder the work.
beach-crawl-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Beach Bear Crawl
Simple, but effective — begin in a plank position with your arms fully extended. Then, slowly crawl forward in the sand like a bear using your arms and feet.
Pushups
You can do these pushups inside your vacation rental, but doing them on the beach with the uneven terrain will challenge your body in new ways. The softness of sand makes push-ups harder. Begin in a plank position with arms fully extended and lower your body until your face is almost touching the sand. Repeat until you feel fatigued. Facing the water puts your body at a decline which is more challenging. Beginners may find it easier to face away from the water so your body will be at an incline.
beach-squats-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Sand Sprints
Want to boost your cardiovascular fitness? Running sprints on the beach will do it.
The resistance from the sand makes these more strenuous than regular sprints, so don’t overdo it – you’ll feel them quickly.
Warm up by easy running on the beach. When you’re ready go hard and sprint for 20 seconds pumping your arms trying to cover as much ground as you can in the short amount of time. Then give yourself a minute or two of recovery, to allow almost full recovery so you can put maximum effort into each sprint. Repeat. Aim for 10 sprints. Sounds easy enough 🙂 Then cool down walking slowly on the beach to bring your heart rate back down.
sand-lunges-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Walking Sand Lunges
Walking lunges are an ideal leg workout for the beach. Lunging in the sand is an excellent glute and thigh workout, and doing it on the beach means you can enjoy the peaceful view while on vacation. The sand makes for adequate resistance and requires you to really use your stabilizing muscles. Begin by slowly lunging forward with one leg; then lunge forward with the other leg in a continuous motion while moving in a forward direction. Complete several sets of this exercise until your legs feel fatigued.
beach-yoga-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals
Beach Yoga
Ohhh, the power of a yoga workout. Get stretched and relax with some beachside yoga. Imagine—enjoying the beach with light activity, connecting with nature and your own spirituality. Beach yoga is the perfect way to surround yourself with serene scenery as you deeply inhale the fresh salt air and get the sensational, warm feeling as the sun touches your skin. The softness of the sand will enable you to create poses that would normally require you to stop and put down a blanket for padding. Anna Maria Island is relaxing and laid back, an absolutely perfect place for beach yoga.
If you are interested in group yoga classes on the beach please contact us Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals and we will provide information.
Whatever form your workout takes, we wish you a wonderful beach vacation on Anna Maria Island, Florida. We hope your visit with us is filled with many great moments making beautiful take-home memories.

Shop, Play & Dine on Bridge Street, Bradenton Beach – Anna Maria Island

Bridge Street is where the original wooden bridge stood and at one time was the only means of access to the island. The wooden bridge was replaced in 1967 with the concrete bridge that you see today running from the mainland to Anna Maria Island.
Bridge Street offers the same laid-back Florida charm that is consistent with all of Anna Maria Island. Instead of high-rise condos and shopping malls, you will find boutique style shops and restaurants. Historic Bridge Street on Bradenton Beach which is the southernmost city of Anna Maria Island. With spectacular Bay to Gulf water views, Bridge Street is a must see!
So, let’s get started — Parking is limited on the Bridge Street. We recommend that you leave your car and walk or use the free Island trolley. The area is very walkable with rest benches along the way.

Find one of a kind items from many of the merchants, including, Bridge Street Bazaar, Bridges Street Interiors, Back Alley Treasures, Bridge Street Jewellery. There are a few not to be missed shops that have just recently opened, right beside Bridge Street Bazaar. Shopping on Bridge Street is a relaxing experience. Have fun while you look for that treasure souvenir to take back home with you.

Activities — Play a round at Florida’s most unique miniature golf course. Fish Hole Adventure golf is an old Florida fishing village themed course. With misters to keep you cool on a hot Florida day, a 3000 gallon pond filled with koi of all sizes and colors, and native Florida plants this is a fun activity. Perfect for the whole family!
If you are looking to book any tours or activities, be sure to stop at Book a Little Sunshine. Choose from water adventures, fishing charters, snorkeling, sunsets cruises, paddle experiences and more. You name it, they will arrange it.

Dine — There are plenty of places to dine, many offering nightly live music (some day music too). Here are a few of the restaurants we recommend on Bridge Street: Anna Maria Oyster Bar on the Pier, Bridge Tender Inn, Island Creperie, Blue Marlin, Island Time Bar & Grill, Bridge Street Bistro. We are sure one of these will become your new favourite spot. Bridge Street = the best place for Anna Maria Island dining and entertainment.

After you’ve wandered along Bridge Street and enjoyed a little shopping and a delicious meal, make your way onto the Bridge Street Pier. There is always a breeze and some great views of the waterway and its many boats. Its almost magical!
As you end your day on Bridge Street, take a seat on one of the benches or swings and relax on the Pier. You’ll be happy you did.

Enjoy Sarasota’s own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their Sunday afternoon show at the Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place Sundays at 2:00 pm now through to the middle of May.
We were there to watch them perform last Sunday and were totally amazed!
The Ski-A-Rees put on a wonderful show with great music and the announcers are quite entertaining. The team are a dedicated group doing what they love to do, and it shows! Juggling the demands of full time careers, some are Doctors, lawyers and physician assistants, they unselfishly find time to perform. Their show is non-stop, exciting and a great family activity. The skiers display their talents performing tricks and their skill while making a 16 person skiing pyramid. When you go, be sure to get there at least about hour early as it usually draws a big crowd. There are bleacher seats, some of which are covered, but most of the seats are in the sun so dress accordingly. Sunscreen and hats for everyone! Bring a cushion if you don’t want to sit on the metal seats. We were in the open area which provides a behind the scenes view of the team. Talking to people seated in the covered stands, they were partially blocked from some stunts, but said it wasn’t often. You can also bring your own lawn chair. There is a shaded area under the trees where you still have a good view of the show. We found lots of free parking and there are snacks and drinks available for purchase.
Although the shows and parking are free, donations are appreciated. Please give generously as the Ski-A-Rees are a non-profit organization.
Location: 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway, near Mote Marine Aquarium – look for the Ski-A-Reese signs

Sunday, March 17 — Beach Bistro Saint Patrick’s Day Parade: At the time this blog was written, information was not posted regarding the parade. I sent a message to the restaurant inquiring and have not received a response. The Beach Bistro has been doing the Saint Patrick’s Day parade for 19 years and hopefully they will continue the tradition. The Bistro usually celebrates St. Patrick’s Day on the Sunday closest to St. Patrick’s Day and with it falling on a Sunday this year, I would guess that is when the fun will happen.
Normally, the parade route starts in Holmes Beach and proceeds north along Marina Drive. You may want to check the link for updates //www.beachbistro.com/

Florida-Strawberry-Festival-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals

Happy NATIONAL STRAWBERRY DAY!

Celebrate at the Florida Strawberry Festival!
#NationalStrawberryDay

Who knew there was such a thing as National Strawberry Day?

As much as I love strawberries I wasn’t aware they had their own day. Well it’s true, today, February 27th, is National Strawberry Day! It’s a day created to celebrate those little red fruits bursting with sweet perfection! These juicy, sweet berries just happen to be one of the most popular fruits in the world and they deserve to be recognized.

Here are a few fun facts about strawberries …
  • There are approximately 8,000 acres of strawberry fields in Florida
  • California produces 80% of the strawberries in the United States.
  • Florida is second in production. The Florida season runs from December to May and peaks during March and April. To meet the demand, winter strawberries are usually imported between November and May.
  • Strawberries are the only fruit with seeds on the outside—about 200 of them. A berry has its seeds on the inside.
  • Since the seeds are on the outside, strawberries aren’t true berries, like blueberries or grapes.
  • Strawberries are a member of the rose family.
  • Ninety-four percent of United States households consume strawberries.
  • Strawberries at room temperature are sweeter than cold strawberries.
  • Strawberries are low fat, low calorie; high in vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, potassium.
  • Strawberries contain more vitamin C than oranges.
  • Strawberries contain no cholesterol.
  • Strawberries are the first fruit to ripen in the spring and must be picked at full ripeness; they cannot ripen once picked.

Celebrate National Strawberry Day with a fresh bowl of strawberries and cream, a strawberry smoothie, toast smothered in strawberry jam, or a scoop of strawberry ice cream. Yum!
Attending the Florida Strawberry Festival is another way you can celebrate the delicious, bright red strawberry, where it is the main attraction. This 11-day community event celebrates the strawberry harvest of Eastern Hillsborough County. Fill up on strawberries and strawberry themed foods during your visit to the festival. You can enjoy strawberries—straight from the patch, Creamy Strawberry Whip, Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Pizza, Strawberry Cobbler, Strawberry Lasagna, Strawberry Milkshakes, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries and much more.
There is expected to be more than 500,000 visitors attending the 48th annual festival which is held at the Plant City (Strawberry Festival) Fairgrounds.
The Florida Strawberry Festival runs for 11 days from February 28 to March 10. Gates open daily at 10:00 am, and close at 10:00 pm.
Admission is $10 for ages 13 and up. Children ages 6 to 12 get in for $5 and children under 5 are free with paid adult admission.
Discount Admission Tickets are available from February 1 to March 11 at participating Publix Super Market locations.
Enjoy the festival’s headline entertainment, youth livestock shows, midway rides, exhibits of commerce and more!
