Is there Red Tide on Anna Maria Island?

This is a question we’ve heard hundreds of times over the past few months. As travellers come to Anna Maria Island to soak up the Florida sunshine and spend time on our pristine beaches the red tide question is an important one. Especially with the cold and icy conditions the north and mid-west have recently been experiencing, tourists and other folks are migrating to Florida by the thousands. Whether you can manage to get away for a week or a month, I can’t think of a better place to spend your vacation than on Anna Maria Island.

Now, to answer your question, “Is there red tide on Anna Maria Island”, NO!

Florida’s red tide levels have continually decreased since September when they peaked. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reported yesterday, from their latest lab tests, Florida’s coastal waters are entirely free of red tide algal blooms. This is news we have been anxious to hear, it deserves repeating. According to the latest round of tests conducted by the FWC, they found no red tide present in Florida’s coastal waters, NONE!

Here is a Statewide Red Tide Status Map from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission —
Please be sure to click on the map and expand looking at the dots specifically in our Manatee region.

Naturally, people have been worried about the impacts of red tide so the reports that we are red tide free is certainly great news. For anyone planning to visit us you can now put your worries to rest knowing our waters are clear. As always, we will continue to monitor the conditions and update you with any changes.

Good-bye red tide, hello and welcome, guests! Enjoy the beautiful, turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico and everything Anna Maria Island has to offer.

book-direct-anna-maria-island-condo-rentals

February 6th is National #bookdirect Day!

Today, February 6th, vacation rental managers, homeowners and vacation industry leaders unite as we raise a collective voice to educate the public as to why booking direct is a fantastic option for just about everyone. We are joining forces in a one day #BookDirect campaign where we project a singular message. Our mission is to let all travelers know that there are many great advantages to bypassing those third-party channels/on-line travel agents (OTA’s) such as Booking.com, Expedia, TripAdvisor, HomeAway and Airbnb. We want to encourage guests to book directly with us owners/property managers. We believe that vacation rental homes are the best value for your vacation dollar and there are many benefits of booking directly with an owner and not third party on-line-travel agents.

Did you know you can save money and get even better service by booking directly with an owner or property manager? The biggest reason we recommend booking directly with an owner/property manager is that you will always get the lowest rate. There are no service fees when you book directly from an owner or property manager, and in fact, you can save hundreds by booking directly with the own.

Travellers know Airbnb, VRBO, vacationrentals.com, HomeAway, and TripAdvisor charge fees to consumers. In some cases, these “service” fees are not easily recognizable to a guest who has chosen to book through a third-party.

-HomeAway, VRBO, vacationrentals.com, all charge the guests a booking fee
-TripAdvisor charges both the guest and supplier a booking fee
-Booking.com and Expedia charge the property owner/manager a 15-18 % fee per booking. From a guest standpoint, be aware that this fee is built into the price you pay for your rental. Therefore,         booking fees means increased vacation rental costs to you, the guest.
OTA charges are not insignificant, whether these surcharges/guest service fees are added to or “included” in the rental rate. Bottom line is, these fees translate to travellers paying hundreds of dollars more just to use these big OTA websites.

Here are some other reasons to #bookdirect rather than through an OTA:
1. It’s easier — When you go directly to annamariaislandcondorentals.com you cut out the middle man. There’s no hassle of trying to find available dates from the OTA’s array of homes, there’s no pressure to try to book sooner, and you can find exactly the home you want directly from the source. By going straight to us you can cut out any other hassle and start relaxing before your vacation even begins.

2. Communication between the guest and owner/property manager — Traditionally, sites like HomeAway and VRBO and others were a way to connect owners with travelers who wanted to rent. It was an advertising platform — nothing more. Today, on virtually all of the OTA’s sites, all phone numbers, emails, websites and all identifying information is masked and direct communication between owners and guests is impossible. Unfortunately, the OTA system blocks out any and all contact information and all communication goes through the OTA until after the booking is made. You might want to know if there is a grill, a kayak, what check-in time is, or if there is a grocery store close by. When you book direct, you can ask these important questions and get the answers before you commit to a booking.

3. Book direct with knowledgeable owners — Who knows your destination area better than the owner/property manager? Whether you are looking for restaurants, activities, equipment rentals or tours we will always give you the best and most up-to-date advice. We can tell you about all the fabulous things to do and what not to miss during your stay. With the local knowledge the owner or property manager has, we know all the best places to eat or drink, the best things to do and will give you all the information you need to make sure you have the best possible vacation experience. It’s our pleasure to suggest activities in the area that are beyond the obvious as well as special deals only locals know about. Ask away, we owners are always happy to help and offer suggestions.

4. #bookdirect and receive special offers — Different periods throughout the year property managers and owners have special rates and special offers available. With direct communication with us you get the best offers. These are specials that we use to reward our loyal guests.

5. Special discounts to local activities, tours, fishing charters, rental equipment and more! — Another benefit from booking direct with Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals is the partnerships we have with local businesses. We partner with companies in exchange for a nice discount for all our guests. We do not receive a commission from this partnership, we do it strictly to benefit our guests. These are discounts that the OTAs won’t offer you and you won’t find them in local coupon books. Once your direct booking with us has been confirmed , you can take a look on our website at some of the great deals offered.

How do you book direct?
When you are searching for a property and you’ve found a property (or properties) you’re interested in, it’s easy enough to click “Book Now” and complete your reservation. But, savvy travelers are learning to save money and take an extra step. In the property listing, look for a property name or company logo. Then a quick Google location search will help you find the property by matching their name or logo. Once you have that, visit their website, contact the owner/property manager through Facebook, or, even better, pick up the phone and call them.

Next time you are looking to book your dream vacation, skip the OTA’s and go directly to our website — annamariaislandcondorentals.com — #bookdirect and save!
Not only do we offer you a dream vacation, we will make the booking process easy while offering you the best prices with no hidden or additional fees.

Many consider this to be the finest dining experience in the area. Some guests have told us it is a little pricey, but they go on to tell us the food is worth every penny. If you’re looking to impress your significant other this might be the place!
Note: If you don’t make it here for Valentine’s Day, don’t worry, the Beach Bistro is romantic year round.

Beach House – 200 Gulf Drive North, Bradenton Beach 941-779-2222
If all you did was sit at one of the tables and drink a glass of water, you would enjoy yourself. Fortunately, with Chef Will’s creativity the Beach House offers so much more than that. Offering delicious dishes all with an emphasis on sustainability and local ingredients, picked produce from their own farm and fresh from the Gulf seafood.

PLAYING PICKLEBALL ON ANNA MARIA ISLAND – Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals

Thinking of playing pickleball while vacationing with Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals? Excellent! No reason you can’t enjoy your game at home and on vacation too. With the increasing popularity of pickleball the number of places to play is increasing, but we have found on our travels that many destinations do not offer facilities to play. However, when you are vacationing with Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals, no worries, we have you covered. But, before we get to the where, let’s talk a little bit about the game itself.

At any sports complex you will find people playing all kinds of paddle or racket sports. Tennis and racquetball are two of the most popular of this variety of sport, but there are other creative options available. For those of you that have never played or are new to the sport of Pickleball you might be curious to know more about the game.

You may have just learned of Pickleball, but it isn’t new, it was actually invented in 1965 by three Washington dads to provide a game that the whole family could play together. In 1975 it was recognized as “America’s newest racquet sport”, and by 1990, pickleball was being played in all 50 United States.

So, what is pickleball? It is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It can be played with 2–4 people on a court similar to the size of a badminton court. The net in Badminton is elevated, a Pickleball net is low to the ground like on a tennis court. Instead of using a racquet and tennis ball, players use paddles made from solid wood or composite materials and a perforated plastic ball, a “Wiffle ball.” Pickleball is a sport that can be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors and has it own unique set of rules. It can be played as singles or doubles. When you serve you do it underhand. Only the serving team is able to score a point and after every point teammates switch spots.

A game is played to 11 and the victor must win by at least two points. Pickleball is a sport for all ages. Being played on a smaller court makes it popular for retired aged folks as they can get their exercise without having to play on a larger sized tennis court and you can actually carry on a casual conversation while playing.

Younger adults also like playing on the smaller court and enjoy an intense game testing their hand eye coordination much like ping pong. When I compare Pickleball to other sports, I find Pickleball is easier to get the swing and serving down because of the paddles and smaller court. When I first started to play tennis it took me months to get good enough to play a game, but when I started playing Pickleball it only took me a few hours to get the rules and techniques down.

The game of Pickleball can be a fun, competitive or a social game that almost anyone can play. For some players it is an adrenaline rush of playing great and winning. For me, it’s about the social interaction and experiencing the physical, mental, and social benefits of feeling great!
Okay, now where can you can play Pickleball in Anna Maria Island?

Bring a cushion if you don’t want to sit on the metal seats. We were in the open area which provides a behind the scenes view of the team. Talking to people seated in the covered stands, they were partially blocked from some stunts, but said it wasn’t often. You can also bring your own lawn chair. There is a shaded area under the trees where you still have a good view of the show.

Planning Your Ideal Vacation — Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals

We understand there is so much more to your vacation than just accommodations.
When you think about your next holiday what comes to mind?
We’ve put together the following information to help you choose your vacation destination.
Where should we go? Looking for something that is not a densely populated tourist hot spot? Anna Maria Island (AMI) Florida is a little gem along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico that offers a perfect mix for those seeking total and utter relaxation or those wanting a more active, but still relaxing vacation. Anna Maria Island with 7 miles of bright, white powdery sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise water and old Florida charm is a popular tourist destination unlike others. The locals have done an amazing job of maintaining the island’s charm with no chain restaurants and no high rise buildings. You will find old beach cottages, gently swaying palms tress and award winning picture perfect beaches. Combine all that with the beautiful Florida sunshine and you have the idyllic atmosphere of Anna Maria Island. Watching sunrises colouring the radiant sky or viewing spectacular sunsets you will be delighted you have come to this beautiful Island.
Where will we stay? Stay with Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals and you will have everything you could possibly need to spend a vacation in paradise. From the white sandy beaches of Anna Maria Island, private beach access, luxurious condos featuring a heated pool, lanais overlooking the beach or pool and amazing location, we offer everything you need for a blissful, tropical vacation.

When should we book? Reserving your rental at least six to 12 weeks before you travel will improve the variety of inventory available. Typically our rates are not subject to the same changes as airfares or hotel rates. Thinking the inventory is unlimited? It’s not. Supply is limited and when supplies run out, so does your chance to book. So, our advice…if you like it, book it as soon as possible.
When is the best time to go? Anytime. If you want to enjoy a tropical climate, then Florida is the place for you. Florida has an average annual high of 80F, offering year round sunny, warm weather.
Every year residents from the northern United States, Canada and other cold weather countries flock to Florida in search of sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Because of this people think the months from January to April offer the best weather of the year. But, other months offer an equally perfect vacationing environment –
For example, Anna Maria Island, Florida from December to March sees average day temperatures from low 70’s to high 70’s. April to June low to high 80’s and July and August mid-high 80’s with some low to mid 90 degree temperatures. September to November low to high 80’s.
In my opinion, May and mid-September through November offer the best in terms of ideal temperatures – both air and water. Average daily highs ranging from low to mid 80’s and Gulf of Mexico water temperatures hovering around 80F delivers near perfect conditions for your vacation. These months are usually dry with lowish humidity and on top of that are quieter months. The snowbirds are gone, kids are in school which mean you have the Anna Maria Island beaches almost to yourselves.
Temperature tolerance is different for each of us. Some people think they will melt in the Florida summer heat. For me, summertime weather on Anna Maria Island is ideal. From June-August, average daily high temperatures range from 85 F – 91 F. With a 5-15 mph tropical beach breeze felt most prominently on the beach, most find it is quite comfortable. The Gulf of Mexico is typically 5-10 degrees cooler than the air temperatures making the water pristine! A swimsuit, cooler and beach umbrella are all you need for a most enjoyable day on the beach.
As you plan the perfect trip, remember any time of year is a great time to vacation in Anna Maria Island.
How will we get there? Plane, bus, train or car?
One of the many advantages of choosing Anna Maria Island as your travel destination, is that it is easily driveable from most American States and Canada. Plus, there are five International Airports within 2 hours of Anna Maria Island. Most visitors either fly or drive, but if that’s not your thing and you are willing to spend a little more time, consider travelling by train or bus which is as much an experience as it is transportation. Wether you arrive via air, train or bus there are many transportation services available to pick you up and deliver you safely to our condos.
How far is it from the airport? The closest airport to us, Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), is approximately 15 minutes. SRQ is a relatively small airport making it very easy to navigate. The baggage area is easy to find and the car rentals are in the same area. In 2018 SRQ added a series of new destinations flights from budget airlines to/from some very popular locations. With many low cost, non-stop flights now being offered, Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is our the airport of choice. Tampa International Airport (TPA), another great options for our guests, is exactly 1 hour door to door. TPA offers an abundance of flights to many destinations. The driving time to: Orlando International (MCO) 1 hour 50 minutes, Clearwater/St.Petersburg (PIE) 45 minutes, and Fort Myers Southwest Florida (RSW) 1 hour 40 minutes; these are great airports as well.
How can we get around? Worried you won’t have a car when you arrive, don’t be. Unbelievable as it may seem, you really can get around the seven mile Island of Anna Maria without a car. Anna Maria Island offers you several transportation options: the Free Island Trolley operates daily from 6:00 am to 10:30 pm running approximately every 20 minutes. It will take you from Anna Maria at the northern tip to Coquina Beach, the Southernmost point of the Island & yes, it is FREE. Island Monkey Bus, a tip only ride service on Anna Maria Island and beyond. Golf cart Rental is readily available and a fun way to see the Island. Bike rental. Walk. Shopping, restaurants, and loads of activities are all within walking distance of our vacation property.
Upon booking with us, we are happy to help you choose the means of transportation that is right for you.
What will we do when we’re there? There is plenty to do on Anna Maria Island (AMI) Whether you’re looking for a quiet escape from reality or prefer a more lively experience there’s something for you on the island. You can go to the beach. With private beach access you will find less crowds in an area that’s almost exclusively yours. Walk the beach, you have 7 miles of it to enjoy or if you want true relaxation, sit and listen to the sound of the waves. You can bike the Island. Rent a bike and discover the Island, the peaceful neighbourhoods and the slow lifestyle of AMI. Follow along an unbeaten path, you never know what you might find. Go Paddleboarding, jet skiing, sailing or kayaking. Rentals are available right on the beach. Walk to Historic Bridge Street on Bradenton Beach. You will find lots of quaint shops, restaurants, and a nice pier at the end of Bridge Street. Well you’re there stop for a game of mini-putt and then to the courtyard at Blue Marlin where you can listen to live music and enjoy some delicious seafood. Rent a Golf cart or take the Free trolley to the North end of the Island. Have your picture taken at the old Anna Maria Jail and go shopping on Pine Avenue. With no shortage of shops you will find quaint, boutique clothing stores, culinary specialty stores, and more! Take your wallet as is likely you will find something you want to buy.

Can I play golf? – There is only one golf course on Anna Maria Island and it is gorgeous! The club is members only, but you can pay a guest fee of around $500. A little pricey for most, but don’t be discouraged there are many courses near Anna Maria Island.
Bradenton Country Club is a beautiful course designed with fountains, lots of trees, and lagoons. It is a 18 hole course located just 10 minutes east of the Island.
Timber Creek Golf Course is a nine hole course located 10 minutes east of Anna Maria Island. Not only is it a budget friendly course, but perfect for beginners and families.
Manatee County Golf Course is located in West Bradenton, about 10 minutes from Anna Maria Island. This public course will challenge even you scratch golfers.
IMG Academy Golf Club is a prestigious club located about 15 minutes from Anna Maria Island. Facilities include a driving range.
So as you can see, yes you can golf when vacationing on Anna Maria Island. For a full list please inquire upon booking with us.
Can we take yoga classes?
Yoga on vacation, of course! Beach yoga or in studio classes are available.
All weekly studio classes are on a DROP-IN basis. Gentle and Flow classes limited to 25 students. Restorative classes limited to 15 students. Once your reservation with us is confirmed please request yoga information. We will be happy to provide you with everything you need to get in touch with the local yoga group.
Is it a good place for the kids? Not only is Anna Maria Island beautiful, it is also a great place for families. The island is not overly large. It is big enough to offer lots to do and yet small enough that everything is easily accessible.  On AMI, you won’t experience long lines, crazy traffic or other headaches while on vacation with your little (or big) ones.
Here are a few of our family favourites:
Go to the beach – Build sandcastles, swim, throw a ball around, bury each other in the sand. There are so many fun things to do at the beach.
Hunt for seashells – You can find shells anywhere on the beach, but for really great shelling go to Greer Island aka Beer Can Island. Located just south of Coquina Beach it is a perfect spot to grab some beautiful shells.
Get Donuts – This is always at the top of our list. The Donut Experiment for the most delicious donuts. You must experience these made to order donuts with multiple options of glaze, toppings galore, and even a drizzle of choice!
Play Miniature Golf – A fun activity for all ages. Who doesn’t love watching the ball sink in the hole? On historic Bridge Street which is full of other shops, restaurants and activities, so you can spend a whole morning, afternoon or evening there.
Or, rent kayaks and tour the mangroves, visit Mote Marine & Aquarium in Sarasota, parasail, the list is almost endless.
Where will we eat and drink? Our condos are complete with fully equipped kitchens and there are several nearby markets to find fresh local seafood, locally grown seasonal veggies and fresh spices. There is also a Publix Supermarket on the Island a few minutes from our condo and Island delivery service is also available.
We always suggest our guests dine out at least once. Why? Because the food on the Island is amazing! Beach towns aren’t always known for great food, but that’s not the case on Anna Maria Island. Whether you opt to dine at an upscale restaurant or prefer a more casual relaxed atmosphere you won’t be disappointed with the island’s culinary offerings. There are many restaurants in Anna Maria Island, each one offering something to suit every taste and palate. Would you like to dine with your toes in the sand, indulge in the freshest local seafood in a classy beach setting? Whether you prefer American food, Italian, barbecue, pub food, Mexican, German, you name it, you will find it on Anna Maria Island!
The following restaurants are all within walking distance of our condo. Walking times range from 2 to 15 minutes: Anna Maria Oyster Bar On the Pier, Beach House, Blue Marlin, Bridge Street Bistro, Bridge Tender Inn, French Table, Island Creperie, Island Time Bar & Grill, Kokunut Hut, Oma Pizza & Restaurant, Seafood Shack, Smoqehouse, Tide Tables Restaurant, Wicked Cantina.
When planning your next vacation, put Anna Maria Island on the top of your list. We’re certain you will be delighted as you take your first step on the white powdery sand beaches and look out onto the long stretch of turquoise water. For us, each visit is a beautiful as our first visit. Even after 30 years, we are still in awe of the breathtaking beach views and everything else AMI has to offer. We invite you to visit the white sandy beaches of Anna Maria Island where our favourite place in the world becomes your favourite place too!

Theatre Production at Island Players
Celebrating their 70th season the Island Players Community Theatre is Manatee County’s oldest Community Theater. Located at the north end of Anna Maria Island this theatre continues to provide artistic experiences for the communities while utilizing young and local talent.
From January 10 – January 27, 2019 the theatre is showcasing their version of I HATE HAMLET. I Hate Hamlet is a dramatic comedy written in 1991 by Paul Rudnick set in John Barrymore’s old apartment in New York City. The play follows successful television actor Andrew Rally as he struggles with taking on the role of Hamlet and dealing with a girlfriend who wants him to play Hamlet in Central Park. This is the only stage role his agent, Lillian, has found for him, but Andrew hates Hamlet! The ghost of John Barrymore, who, clothed as Hamlet, has come back to earth for the sole purpose of convincing Rally to play the part. Barrymore is very convincing and Andrew decides to play Hamlet. But when a Hollywood friend shows up offering Andrew a new role in a television pilot, with a potentially large salary and fame, Andrew is forced to choose between Shakespeare, whom his girlfriend loves, or television, where he is loved by millions. Will he stay or not stay? Come find out. You are sure to enjoy this entertaining production of I Hate Hamlet, in this quaint, historic theatre in Anna Maria Island.
Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm with Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. Single tickets are $20.00 each. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Box Office located at 10009 Gulf Drive (corner of Gulf Drive and Pine Avenue), Anna Maria. The Outlaws LIVE Concert
At The Center of Anna Maria Island, 407 Magnolia Ave., Anna Maria, Florida
Saturday, January 19th / Doors open 6:00 PM / Opening Act 7:00 PM
Showtime 8:00 PM / Reserve seats are $50.
This is a concert you don’t want to miss. Do you remember this southern rock band formed in Tampa in 1972? You might remember the Outlaws 1975 best known hit “There Goes Another Love Song.” Come and see their show, hear their new songs when the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (BACVB) brings the Outlaws to Anna Maria Island. As part of a series of concerts planned in 2019 the BACVB hopes to bolster tourism and boost the local economy with each venue receiving 100 percent of ticket and food sales from the concerts. Rich Engler, the first inductee in the Pittsburgh Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will be producing the concerts at the same time he celebrates his 50th year as a concert producer in 2019.
This particular performance will prove to be a balancing act for the production crew. The Anna Maria community center holding the concert, is in a neighborhood where this type of entertainment is not characteristic. Some residents might love the music while others might find the “noise” bothersome. But, those involved in bringing this concert to the community have stated that they will do everything to make this unique experience a good one for all. They want to give the residents and visitors the feeling of intimacy by giving them an opportunity get up close and personal with the artists.
For the Outlaws, this is their chance to bring their band back into the light, to show how much they love making music.
Over the years, The Outlaws experienced several hardships. They went through personnel changes, ill-fated reunions, bitter trademark battles, the tragic deaths of co-founding members Frank O’Keefe and Billy Jones in 1995, and songwriter/vocalist/lead guitarist Hughie Thomasson in 2007. Many people feared that The Outlaws’ trail had come to an end. Not so, after 40 years, The Outlaws are back. They are on the road, on the radio and their fans are loving it.
I have seen the Outlaws perform a few times before and they never disappoint – actually they seem to get even better with age. If you get the opportunity to see this band, you should – they are a true Southern Rock legend.

Saying Good-Bye to 2018 & Good Riddance to Florida Red Tide

Florida Red Tide — It’s GONE!

Storms are not usually cause for celebration and most of us don’t enjoy cool temperatures, clouds, rain and turbulent waters. But, all of us at Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals celebrated when the recent storms hit Anna Maria Island. Why? Because, these storms gave red tide a fatal beating! The December storms that hit just before Christmas brought colder temperatures, high winds gusting to 50 mph and waves cresting at 10 feet. They effectively broke up the bloom and killed the bacteria as the red tide cells weren’t able to swim towards nutrients needed to feed and continue to bloom. Good-bye and good riddance to red tide!
Red tide has affected our area on the Gulf Coast of Florida, sporadically since August and we are happy to bid it farewell. I have heard many different descriptions of Red Tide, here is my understanding of it …
  • Red tide blooms are not new, they have formed in the Gulf of Mexico for hundreds of years. Excessive blooming of plankton known as Karenia brevis causes red tide. The blooming is natural and it typically occurs it is typically late summer or early fall. The bloom of this algae in high densities often turns the beautiful blue water a murky brown or reddish color.
  • Red tides can last a few weeks or many months depending on conditions that influence the bloom’s growth. These conditions include, water currents, sunlight, speed and direction of the wind, nature in general.
  • Humans do not contract red tide — they exhibit symptoms from being exposed to it. Symptoms are typically burning eyes and throat irritation with a cough and can vary individually.
  • Red Tide can affect the central nervous system of fish and other vertebrates, causing these animals to die. Scientists tell us, mammals like manatee are particularly susceptible because they breathe in the toxin, can ingest toxic food and take in some seawater containing toxins.
  • When we see dead fish the cause is not always red tide; there are other conditions that affect marine life.
So, let’s get back to and expand on the good news!!!
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently reported
red tide was not found in any water samples collected last week in Florida waters. Two test sites in Manatee County showed no presence with background levels in waters off Manatee County shores at the Palma Sola Bay bridge. Note: Background concentrations of red tide cause no anticipated effects on people or marine life. Background simply means not present or less than 1,000 cells.
-No fish kills suspected to be related to red tide were reported this week

Their interactive map is updated daily, but due to the holidays, the last samplings recorded were taken Dec. 26 with the next available report available on Friday, January 4th.
