Surf’s Up Watersports Reviews-TripAdvisor
  1. Lance is a great instructor and a heck of a guy! Had a great experience and JetSurf boards are so much fun!!!! Lance was very patient and knowledgeable while teaching! I will for sure be visiting him the next time I am on the island! If you wakeboard or snowboard you need to give this a try!
  2. Lance is a great instructor and even better guy! Check him out in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island – you wont be disappointed. He has the best surfing spot in all of Florida. Great for beginners and experts alike. A must try for all action sport enthusiasts and thrill seekers. Lance had myself (25) and my father (55) riding in no time (our first time gas surfing or even regular surfing). We signed up for one hour and ended up spending 3 hours riding. A perfect Christmas Eve!
  3. Great Company! Fantastic instructor, wonder experience. Very convenient, great water, easy access, great equipment, jetski support.
  4. A MUST DO!! Crazy Fun! Had a great time Jet-Surfing. Lance is a quick instructor, was up and riding in no time. Equipment is well maintained and beach was a nice safe location to learn to ride at. I’m a repeat customer.
  5. MUST DO ACTIVITY! Had the pleasure of joining Lance for a Jetsurf lesson and hired a Jetski while visiting the island on vacation. It was a rare opportunity to try jetsurfing for the first time and I loved it, it’s a great experience that everyone should try. Tuition from lance was first rate and I was up and riding on my first try, he and Barbera went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was well looked after while I was on the water. Children loved the jetski and we say dolphins whilst out. Highly recommended, I’ll be back next time I’m visiting the island!

ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES

ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES

Our favorite beach is simply the beach out front with private access at Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals – 601 Gulf Dr. N. Anna Maria Island, Florida 64217  — A perfect spot to spend the day and ideal for watching the breathtaking sunset. It is simple and pretty and one of the finest Gulf of Mexico beaches along the sun coast.
As our guest, there are other area beaches that you might like to explore. Here is a list in order of distance, closest to furthest from Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals.
 ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES
Cortez Beach — Featuring 140 feet of undeveloped beach it picks up just south of us and ends at the North part of Coquina Beach. This is a unique “Old Florida” style beach, with tall trees lining the beach along with native grasses, sand dunes and sea oats. Combine this with the sandy beach and beautiful gulf waters to make a picture postcard setting. This is a fabulous beach with a completely different feel from Coquina Beach. There are no life guards so you swim or surf at your own risk and there are no amenities like children’s playgrounds, volley ball areas or beach chair rentals.
Although you can still reserve a picnic pavilion here and there are restrooms nearby this is a much quieter beach.
If you drive, Cortez Beach sits on Gulf Drive South on Anna Maria Island, so just slowly cruise the street while looking for a parking spot on the right (west) roadside parking area. You basically pull off Gulf Drive South and on to the side of the road to park. As you jump out of your car you can taste the salty air. This is a beach where you can enjoy the blue skies, warm Florida sun, white sand and make an exceptional day of it.
This Manatee County Beach is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
 ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES
Located on the southern end of Anna Maria Island this is spectacular beach with white sand and turquoise blue water. Coquina Beach offers on duty lifeguards, a concession stand, beach equipment rentals (umbrellas, beach chairs) picnic areas, children’s playground, volleyball courts, water fountains and restrooms. There is a multi-use biking/walking path spanning a large distance. Coquina is lined with tall pine trees offering shady covering for the picnic area where you can enjoy your food and drink. At the southern end of the beach you can sit and watch the boats pass from the west into the inter-coastal waterway looking across at Beer Can Alley. The northern end tends to be a bit quieter where you can relax and maybe if you are lucky you will spot some of the dolphins that frequent the shoreline.
The Coquina beach park is conveniently located on a trolley stop, so you are able to get to it easily from our condo. There is plenty of parking available for those wanting to drive their car.
 ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES
Manatee Beach — 4000 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach
This beautiful white sand beach is a popular spot for families visiting Anna Maria Island. With lifeguards on duty, picnic tables, children’s playground and volleyball courts, this is a gorgeous natural Florida beach. There is a Café on the beach with indoor and outdoor seating. Other facilities include rest rooms, changing stalls, showers, water fountains, umbrella and beach chair rentals. There are also picnic tables in the shade, tucked under the Australian pines. For us beach walkers…you can walk for miles, north or south of Manatee Beach. A five minute drive from our condo and right on a trolley stop this public beach is in a central location on the island. There is lots of parking in the good sized lot and it is free! This is a very popular beach that fills up fast. Definitely worth a visit!
 ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES
Beer Can Island/Greer Island Park/Hooked Spit
Located on the northern tip of Longboat Key at Longboat Pass drawbridge. this undeveloped white sand beach is a popular hangout for locals. Virtually everyone comes by boat, but you can walk here in low tide like we did. By boat you will have easy access and if you are driving you should park your car at the west end of N. Shore Rd and walk north along the gulf. The beach will curve and you will find many old fallen trees. Continue walking (now east) to Longboat Pass where you will find a group boats anchored to the beach. The entire walk is about half a mile one way and is really tranquil. You don’t have to go all the way down to the boaters and can setup your beach spot anywhere. The swimming here isn’t great, because there are dangerous rip currents in Longboat Pass. It’s safer to swim where you park the car off N. Shore Rd. or across the bridge at Coquina Beach. You will find, even at low tide, there are quite a few rocks to clamber over and it is not really accessible with little ones (except by boat). However, the beach at the Northern end of Longboat is still a wonderful place to visit and to escape the crowds. The twisted trees seem to tell a story and I’m sure they have a lot to tell.
Incidentally there are no public restrooms or lifeguards here.
ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES
Whitney Beach — Approximately a quarter-mile long, Whitney Beach is located directly across from Whitney Plaza at the north end of Longboat Ley. Once you’re on Longboat Key, simply follow Gulf of Mexico Drive until you find a road off to the right near North Shore Rd. This is the area in which you want to be that leads out to Whitney Beach. There is a public parking area conveniently located on Broadway Street just west of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Approximately a seven minute drive from our condo this beach extends southward behind several condominium residences. With no amenities you will have to bring what you require for this beach. This is a pristine beach where you will find lots and lots of shells.
 ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES
This beach has beautiful white sand that even in the hottest sun, won’t burn your feet. The water is crystal clear and usually nice and calm. A great location for a beach family picnic, with pavilions, grills, benches, showers, water fountains, playground and restrooms. It does not have lifeguard services. Approximately a ten minute drive from our condo and there is a free trolley stop at the City Pier right next to the park.
Bayfront Park offers some of the best views of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and Egmont Key with excellent picnic and grilling facilities. Visit this beach to enjoy an afternoon barbecue with your family while enjoying the scenery.
 ANNA MARIA ISLAND AREA BEACHES
Bean Point — This gorgeous, secluded white sand beach which wraps around the whole northern part of Anna Maria Island is probably the quietest beach on the Island. Situated on the northern tip of the Island where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Bay the view is as peaceful as it is beautiful. There are no facilities here, therefore, it doesn’t seem to attract tourists so you might very well have the beach to yourself. If you need a break from the Florida sunshine there are lots of pine trees around so you can enjoy the shade. Swimming is not always recommended here because of the risk of strong currents and riptides so please use caution. You can certainly walk along the long shoreline and enjoy the tranquil views. Bean Point is also well known for its incredible sunsets! This is also a great place to fly a kite. Park on any of the side streets in the area and make your way to this beach at the northern tip.

DOLPHIN TOUR — ANNA MARIA ISLAND

With Gulf temperatures averaging 84 degrees and 361 days of sunshine per year the surrounding waters of Anna Maria Island are known as the nursery because of the large number of dolphins that raise their young here.
Anna Maria Island is known for its quaint feel and the unspeakable beauty of the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico that surround it. It is also the perfect place to see dolphins. What better way to spend an afternoon than spotting some of the island’s most beloved dolphins. To see these amazing mammals in the wild you will truly appreciate how beautiful they really are. The dolphin excursion is great for so many reasons, one of which is that it will be one of those rare moments in modern life where you can completely disconnect. Apart from your camera, there are no modern distractions, and as you sail away from the coast what can be more liberating than being able to switch off and become completely immersed in the moment. As you glide effortlessly through the waves let your worries drift away.

Rated by TripAdvisor as one of the best tours on Anna Maria Island, Anna Maria Island Dolphin Tours offers unique coastal views and historic island information. Depart on a dolphin and Wildlife adventure exploring the Gulf of Mexico and the quiet beauty of the Bay. Cruise the grass flats to look for manatees grazing and dolphins playing. At low tide you can often view wading birds on the exposed grass flats.
Listen to commentary during the tour, telling you what you want to know about dolphins, pointing out landmarks and possibly hear some humorous stories about past trips. Don’t stress about the perfect spot to sit on the boat, every seat allows for a picturesque view. If you are hoping for an Instagram-worthy photo right away, be patient and you will probably leave seeing more dolphins than you ever expected.
When it comes to vacation experiences that will last a lifetime, The Salty Dolphin/Anna Maria Island Dolphin Tours is sure to top the list. Plan your dolphin adventure to see some of the most beautiful creatures in their natural habitat – you’ll be glad you did!

Recent TripAdvisor Reviews:
    1. My sister, a friend and myself took the dolphin tour yesterday and it was so much fun. Captain Ben is so knowledgeable and friendly and helped make our adventure so enjoyable. He took the time to make sure we could see the dolphins and manatee, but was careful to not encroach too far in their natural habitat. I highly recommend Captain Ben. If we make it back here someday we will definitely be taking one of his tours again. So much fun!!!
    2. Great time touring the bay with Ben as our captain. Saw about a dozen dolphins and one turtle. Also saw several variety of nesting birds. Ben diverted us from an approaching storm and gave us a great tour. All in our party had a great time.
    3. We saw lots of dolphins!! We had a great trip with Captain Ben early last month. We took a 2pm trip and were fortunate to see many pods of dolphins and a dozing manatee on our journey. Ben was very knowledgeable and careful to ensure the sea-life was not disturbed. The trip was leisurely and good fun. Thank you very much; our expectations were exceeded and my 12 year old can now say she saw dolphins, which she had always dreamed of. Good value for money.
    4. 12 of us girl friends booked a sunset tour with Salty Dolphin Tours. Boat was ready right on time and captain Ben was great! Dolphins were swimming along the boat, he made a pit stop for some of the gals, and he was just a pleasure the entire trip.
    5. I traveled to Anna Maria Island from Hudson, WI with eleven of my best girlfriends from high school to celebrate our 60th birthday’s. We call ourselves The Ya-Ya’s. The dolphin tour with Captain Ben was one of the best highlights of the trip! He is so knowledgeable and a lot of fun! We saw several dolphins jumping and following us in the wake of the boat. It was fabulous! Thank you Captain Ben! We’ll be back!

Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, writer Jeanie Linders created Menopause The Musical® as a celebration of women who find themselves at any stage of “The Change.” Set in a department store where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale, the all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer “The Silent Passage.” It is a stage in every woman’s life that is perfectly normal.

TripAdvisor Reviews:
      1. This exquisite and fairly new building is a welcome and beautiful addition to the Bradenton community. There is ample parking, including valet, if you wish to use it.There are two stages, and performances year round. We saw a performance of Little Women, and while these actors are not members of Actors Equity, they performed their roles admirably. Following the performance, all of the actors gathered in the lobby to meet and greet the theatre patrons…a wonderful touch. We will certainly return.
      2. Fun filled evening, great venue, strong performers and this was certainly a knee slipper. Choreography outstanding. Unbelievable scene staging switches. A fun filled Birthday for me.
      3. We have season tickets to the MPAC and want to support them. Their productions are good and they deserve our support.

 Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals
We are located in Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island, Florida, on the Gulf Coast only a short drive from Bradenton and Sarasota. Bradenton Beach is a small city and home of Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals. Well known for its sugar-white sand beaches, turquoise waters, bright blue sky, fishing piers and a quaint strip of shops, family owned restaurants and businesses. Upon your arrival you will notice the slow pace of Anna Maria Island. The speed limit on most of Gulf Drive (the main road on Anna Maria Island) is 25 mph with some small stretches a maximum of 35 mph. You will not find any hi-rise buildings and drive-through restaurants are prohibited here. Shunning the building of hi-rise hotels and condominiums, Bradenton Beach has kept that friendly family-oriented feel. Instead you will find companies offering bicycle, kayak, paddleboard, sailboats, Segways and fishing equipment rentals. You can rent a car, but most everything on Bradenton Beach is walkable. There is a FREE Island Trolley that rides north to the City of Anna Maria and south to Coquina Beach with lots of stops in between. For your convenience there is a trolley stop right out front of our condo. There is a Publix grocery store and Walgreens on the Island, both a quick trolley ride away.

The Beach — With miles of beach right out front of our condo, spend your days basking in beach paradise. Each day you will wake to a different beach.  Always soft white sand scattered with beautiful shells, the waters are generally calm, but the wave height can vary from a foot to barely a ripple. Take walks on the beach, run on the beach, find sea shells and listen to the waves gently lapping against the shore. You can see porpoise swimming by, maybe putting on a little show for you. Expect to see lots of pelicans and other wildlife, fishermen and sometimes manatee. You will find beach chairs provided in your condo, then pick your spot on the beach and relax as you breath in the fresh Island air. Soak in the sunshine and the gorgeous Island atmosphere then cool off off in the crystal clear Gulf of Mexico water. Grab a cooler and enjoy some snacks as you relax in paradise.

TripAdvisor Reviews-March/April 2018
  1. My husband and I stayed five days at Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island. Our intention was just to unplug and relax. This beach community is perfect! There are good restaurants and access to public beaches easily within walking distance. A free trolley will take you to other communities on the island which makes shopping convenient as well as just exploring the island. Many tours and activities are available from kayak tours, where you’ll likely see dolphins, sea turtles and manatee, to Segway tours. We visited after spring break and the crowds were light. I can see where this area would become less desirable during heavy tourist times because these are small, quaint fishing villages with limited space. I highly recommend this location to enjoy amazing sunsets, fresh fish and tropical cocktails!
  2. Lots of parking. Beautiful white sandy beaches. Nice walking/running path adjacent to the beach. Fun shops and restaurants on Bridge Street.
  3. It was my kids’ first beach vacation. We went to Lido Beach day one, Bradenton Beach day two, and Siesta Key day three. They enjoyed Bradenton the most. Lido sand was pretty rough, Siesta Key’s sand was too fine and was a good quarter mile to get to the water, but they loved Bradenton the most since they had something to do. It wasn’t as busy and there decent sized small shells to find. It kept them interested for hours. Not to mention that the seagulls at Bradenton weren’t nearly as aggressive as Siesta Key.
  4. The ocean is truly good for the soul. I crave the ocean water and waves. Being from northeast North Dakota, one week of beachtime is a means for revival and survival! It’s beautiful living where I do, but there is something medicinal about the ocean! I love the privacy of Bradenton Beach near the location where we stayed. It was our own oasis! Walking on the beach or swimming in the gulf waters were an asylum for us/me. I look forward to coming back for a few more sunsets and the whispering and sometimes turbulent ocean breezes!!
  5. We spent a long weekend here and had a great time enjoying the beach and the beautiful sunsets!! Loved this place!!

  1. Very cool place to spend a few hours!! I liked how it was self paced, although some places did get bunched up it was nice to not have to worry about having to have guide “guide” me through the whole thing.
I’m not an expert climber but a lot of the course was pretty easy, except the hard one! I wish it was longer, or I could’ve gone back through it I guess since they weren’t too busy (on a Monday afternoon). I forgot to ask how high it was but it was really high up there!!
I definitely recommend this place – but don’t get the $4 unlimited water bottles because they are the super tiny ones and you can’t “carry” them with you through most of the obstacles. Bring a water bottle with a strap or something if you tend to get really thirsty 🙂
      1. I enjoyed participating with several other family members to complete this challenging ropes course. It was a real workout to spend the morning at TreeUmph! climbing, trekking across obstacles, and zip-lining away. The guides were all very knowledgeable and helpful, with one offering to cinch up my safety harness midway through the course when she saw that my gear was sagging. Highly recommended!
      2. My son and nephew loved every min of it! I love the fact that they were able to enjoy being outdoors and doing something on their own while I could still keep an eye on them. I can’t wait to experience it with my son. Best thing ever.

SARASOTA, FLORIDA — THE RINGLING SUMMER CIRCUS SPECTACULAR 2018

Growing up with a fondness for live performance and enjoying many Ringling circus shows in Sarasota, has greatly increased my respect and appreciation for the art form.
For anyone that has never experienced a circus performance before, prepare yourself to be dazzled at The Ringling 2018 Circus Spectacular. You can’t help but enjoy what will be a most amazing hour of incredible family fun. These summer shows are being presented in collaboration with The Circus Arts Conservatory of Sarasota. “Children of all ages” will be entertained by this onstage exhibition of circus artistry. They say it’s for “children of all ages,” and it’s true. There is nothing sweeter than watching families as they watch their children and grandchildren, wide-eyed and open-mouthed, take in all the excitement of the circus. The Ringling in Sarasota is only a 15 minute drive from our condo at 601 Gulf Drive North, Bradenton Beach, FL. Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals highly recommends this show to our guests.

CELEBRATE MOTHER’S DAY ON ANNA MARIA ISLAND — May 13, 2018

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, a day to celebrate all the moms and women that influence our lives. A Mom can be biological, mother-in-law, adopted, foster or step-mom. It could also be a grandmother, aunt, close relative, a neighbour or co-worker. Each year we celebrate important women in our lives on Mother’s Day.
So what are you doing this year to show Mom how much you love and appreciate her?
If you are one of the lucky ones to be celebrating Mom’s Day as guests of Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals – 601Gulf Dr. N. Anna Maria Island, Florida 34217, what are your plans for Mom? You might choose to serve Mom a home cooked meal from your fully equipped kitchen or make a delicious meal on the outdoor grill downstairs of your condo. If you decide to dine out, we think Mom would love lunch or dinner at any of the following three waterfront restaurants offering special Mother’s Day celebrations.
 Beach-House-anna-maria-island
The Beach House Restaurant – 200 Gulf Drive North, Bradenton Beach 941-779-2222
The closest of the three to Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals, approximately a 3 minute walk south on Gulf Drive. Located directly on the beach this newly renovated restaurant offers indoor or outdoor dining. It might be hard for Mom to choose between the well appointed dining room, dining on the outdoor covered deck or toes in the sand seating, but those are the choices here. No matter where Mom decides to sit we know everyone will enjoy the terrific view of the Gulf of Mexico. On Mother’s Day, starting at 11:30 am the Beach House will be serving chef inspired dishes from the dinner menu.

The Sandbar – 100 Spring Avenue, Anna Maria, FL 941-778-0444
Approximately 10 minutes from Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals located at the northern part of the Island right on the beach. Listen to the waves along the shore and watch children play in the sand while waiting for your table. Wear your sandals or flip-flops and get the true sand between your toes experience of eating outdoors on Anna Maria Island. The Sandbar also has a very nice bar inside along with a more formal dining room. Known for their delicious seafood and farm to fork produce you can’t go wrong with the Sandbar. If dining in the evening stay and walk out to the beach and watch the gorgeous sunset.
The Sandbar will serve their Brunch menu from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm with the live jazz music provided by the Al Hixon Jazz Band.
 mar-vista-restaurant-anna-maria-island
Open: 11:30 am – 10:00 pm
The MarVista is located on the northern part of Longboat Key about a 7 minute drive south of your Anna Maria Island Beach Rentals condo.
The structure was originally built in 1912 and is considered one of the twelve oldest surviving structures on Longboat Key. This restaurant has recently underwent some renovations with a new kitchen and dining room. You will find seating in the quaint dining room or on the outdoor covered deck overlooking picturesque Sarasota Bay.
The atmosphere is the best- lighted trees next to the inter-coastal waterway is a beautiful spot. There is sometimes a wait for a table, but they have a beautiful dock to walk out on with your drinks. Enjoy a fresh Florida seafood meal or choose other delicious menu items. We have always found the food to be great the service excellent.
On Mother’s Day Mar Vista will be offering lunch and dinner menus at regular times (listed above) with fresh from the farm produce and gulf to table seafood expertly prepared by Chef Erik.

DIGGING IN THE SAND? OK, BUT DON’T FORGET TO FILL THOSE HOLES & BEGINNING OF TURTLE NESTING SEASON MAY 1st

One of our family’s favourite pastimes at the beach is castle building and that includes lots of digging. I have always associated digging holes in the sand as a fun and harmless activity. But, after reading several articles I realize it has become an issue over the past few years and can have serious consequences. There have been cases of injury caused from those seemingly harmless large pits that we beachgoers love to dig. When we first visited Anna Maria Island we were not aware of the beach rules and I’m sure some of our guests at Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals – 601 Gulf Dr. N. Anna Maria Island, Florida 34217 aren’t either. Hopefully by sharing this information we will increase awareness for the safety of the sea turtles and all visitors.
sea-turtles-anna-maria-island
Because May 1st marks the official beginning of turtle season on Anna Maria Island I will start with this as the first reason why when we dig the holes we need to fill the holes.
The Loggerhead Turtle is the most common species of sea turtle that nests on Anna Maria Island. Turtle nesting season which runs from May 1 to October is when the sea turtles swim to land and lay their eggs. They crawl up the beach, typically during the night, dig nests, usually by the seagrass, and lay their eggs. As you walk along the beach you might have see marked nests scattered throughout the white sand beaches.
sea-turtles-anna-maria-island
Anna Maria Island has several enforceable rules to help protect sea turtles and native animals. These include, filling in holes on the beach, not leaving objects overnight such as beach chairs/umbrellas or tent canopies that pose as an obstacle, no littering/pick up trash on the beach, turn off artificial light (no flashlights or flash photography) that could cause disorientation and lastly, if you see a turtle nesting stay back and watch from a distance. Holes also can become traps or impediments for female sea turtles, which must make their way on land to nest.
sea-turtles-anna-maria-island
So while we are having a great day at the beach digging our holes, remember the only time these female sea turtles leave the water is to nest and these holes can become traps for them. Lights out because baby turtles follow the reflection of the moon on the water so house lights or flashlights will confuse them causing them to travel to land instead of the water. Anna Maria Island is fortunate to have many volunteers that do as much as they can to ensure as many babies as possible make it safely to the water. These volunteers also keep track of the nests and pay close attention as each nest gets close to hatching. With the decrease in sea turtle population let’s all do our part to assist the Island volunteers as they do their part.
Well helping the turtles here are some additional reasons why we should not dig deep holes in the sand:
  • These unexpected holes can injure those walking or running when their foot catches in one. A twisted, sprained or worse a broken ankle is something we all want to avoid.
  • Holes in the sand become dangerous obstacles and make it more difficult for emergency vehicles to get to where they need to be. Those that patrol the beach on 4 wheelers or in any emergency vehicle must navigate around these holes slowing their response time and creating a major hazard for the vehicles as well.
  • Large holes or even smaller holes dug with toy shovels can be harmful not just to the turtles but to other wildlife as well.
anna-maria-island-beaches
There are endless ways to spend time on our beautiful beach, whether you are in the sand or on the water.
Spending time at the beach is something we all enjoy, so please avoid digging large holes creating a safer beach environment for all of us as well as the turtles. Our beaches are meant for fun and relaxation, so let’s work together to reduce mishaps and injuries allowing everyone a wonderful beach experience.
Well it’s okay to dig, and if you want to dig deep, please do not leave the holes. It is imperative for all beachgoers, to make sure any holes you dig are filled in before you leave the beach.
And, if you see holes left by others do a good deed and fill them in.
