Fun For All Ages on Anna Maria Island!
In the past we have discussed where to eat on Anna Maria Island so today we’re going to get into the good stuff…what to do! Initially I had considered what to do with kids would be a post of it’s own but after much thought I have come to the conclusion that most everything we do on Anna Maria Island is fun for ALL ages!
That’s just one of the reasons why it has been our favorite vacation destination for decades.
My top 3 picks
- Go to the beach! Our condos are just a hop, skip and a jump from Bradenton Beach. It’s so close you can hear, see, and smell the salt water. If sun tanning and swimming all day isn’t your thing or if the kids get bored fast I would recommend bringing lots of floaty toys, sandcastle building materials, an umbrella and lots of snacks and water. Another thing that the kids enjoy is flying a kite on a windy day, enjoying an ice-cream on the beach, or renting a paddle board. The beach can easily occupy the whole family for a day if you have enough to do. Check out this blog post to read up on all of my favorite beaches on Anna Maria Island!
- Go to Sarasota Jungle Gardens! This is a great option if you’re wanting to venture off the Island but still spend time outdoors enjoying the beautiful South Florida Sun.“Sarasota Jungle Gardens is home to more than 200 native and exotic animals including birds of prey, many different species of parrots and macaws, primates, small mammals, dozens of snakes, lizards, iguanas, alligators, crocodiles and other reptiles – many of them rescued or donated – including Florida’s noted pink flamingos. All nestled within 10 acres of lush tropical landscaping connected by winding jungle trails.” (source)This is a great day trip for children, teens and adults alike and only a quick 35 minute drive from our condo!
- Pay a visit to Snooty The Manatee! A perfect rainy day activity for everyone is always a trip to The South Florida Museum. This Museum is also home to Snooty The Manatee-the oldest known manatee in the world! There is a museum, a planetarium and aquarium all in one-this ensures that there is something to satisfy everyone in the group. Be sure to check out the “Snooty Cam” online to see what the cute sea creature is up to before your arrival! (The kids will love this) Children 3 & Under are free with a paying adult and the first Saturday of most months is “Family Night” and admission is half price after 4pm. This is definite must see!
