Where to eat and drink in annamariaisland – Fresh bakers – Anna Maria Island Donut Experience

08/04/2017

The Donut Experiment began life in 2012 as Anna Maria Donuts in Anna Maria, FL. The original mad scientists are the husband-and-wife team of Shawn and Cecilia Wampole. Hailing from the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania, the couple was surprised to find that there was not a donut shop on Anna Maria Island when they vacationed there. What originally started out as a joke about opening a donut shop, eventually led to, after some number crunching and careful planning, the couple quitting their jobs, selling their house and moving to Florida.

Located at 210 Pine AVE and Anna Maria Island’s only donut shop. The Donut Experiment features made-to-order donuts. You may ask, what exactly is a made-to-order donut? Well, starting out with a vanilla cake donut, that is made right in front of you, and then you pick your icing and topping. Offering a minimum of four icings and 14 toppings to choose from, so the possibilities are endless. Served fresh roasted, fresh ground and fresh brewed coffee. With a constant rotation of coffee flavors, you never know what we are brewing up.

The Donut Experiment typically sells between 800 and 1,500 doughnuts in a single day, with most customers ordering at least a dozen at a time.

So popular is the Donut Experiment it is not uncommon to see long line ups out the door for one of the worlds most beloved treats.

Enjoy a scenic ride on the free trolley which stops directly in front of Absolute Anna Maria at trolley stop 34S all the way to the north end of the island to the Donut Experience.

Where to eat and drink in annamariaisland – Great bars – Island Time Bar & Grill

08/04/2017

Island Time Bar & Grill

Originally a parking garage Island Time restaurant is now one of my favourite restaurants on Anna Maria Island featuring live music seven nights a week starting a 7:00pm and the most “happening” place on Anna Maria Island.

Just a five minute walk from Absolute Anna Maria located at 111 Gulf Dr. S., Bradenton Beach.

Located directly below the Bradenton Beach Bistro which offers fine dinning Island Time offers a much more casual experience which includes covered seating in a sports bar atmosphere with live entertainment, plus sidewalk seating under umbrellas with superb sunset views. An extensive menu of seafood sandwiches, burgers, tacos, and fish or steak entrees should please the older kids and parents.

A placemat-sized kids’ menu includes coloring (crayons provided) and games, plus 10 meal selections from hot dogs to coconut shrimp in a $5 to $11 price range that includes a beverage. For dessert, there’s crème brulee, hot fudge or caramel sundae, and warm berry cobbler a la mode.

Island Time’s menu should satisfy everyone’s appetite and features the popular crunchy grouper sandwich that is never frozen, fresh Florida grouper, great chicken wings and their New York-style burger. There is also a large appetizer menu that includes ahi tuna, coconut shrimp, chips with salsa and guacamole, baskets of fries and onion rings and more. Entree offerings include cedar-planked salmon, filet mignon, coconut and almond-crusted mahi, a broiled seafood platter and a selection of entree-style salads. Island Time also offers side salads and soup, including lobster bisque and French onion; a wide array of sandwiches; lobster mac and cheese; fish and chips and many delicious desserts. The list goes on, and Herlihy says you can get anything from chicken wings to filet mignon, and it all comes out of the same kitchen that serves the Bridge Street Bistro.

Happy Hour daily from 11:30am -4pm Monday -Saturday and Nightly Happy Hour from 10 to midnight.

What to see in annamariaisland – Local attractions – St. Armands Circle

08/03/2017

St. Armand”s Circle a must see for anyone vacationing on Anna Maria Island. Enjoy a stunning picturesque drive from Anna Maria Island straight south along Gulf of Mexico drive filled with stunning views of mansions, golf courses, waterfront and wildlife.

Located one block from Lido Beach St. Armand’s circle know for it’s high end shopping and restaurants. Featuring over 140 merchants St. Armands Circle are committed to making your visit as memorable as it is rewarding. Visit for a day or stay for a lifetime; the St. Armands experience is one you won’t soon forget. You want have to travel far to find the world’s treasures; they’re all here on St. Armands Circle!

Today, St. Armands Circle is a hub of activities for the island that is otherwise filled with mostly posh residences. The beach, sitting on Lido Key, on the Gulf of Mexico is only a few blocks away, another excellent feature.
Two other main arteries go through the area and boast shops and restaurants at the points where they connect with St. Armands Circle. Boulevard of the Presidents runs mostly north and south while John Ringling Boulevard runs mostly east and west. This configuration separates the area into four quadrants. Signage and directories use these quadrants to better orient visitors. The Pink Quadrant is to the northwest, the Gold Quadrant is to the northeast, the Aqua Quadrant is to the southeast, and the Purple Quadrant is to the southwest. Along the center of John Ringling Boulevard and the Boulevard of the Presidents are wide medians with park-like features including trees, brick paths, benches, and most interestingly, classic-themed statues. Many of the statues date back to the twenties and reflect John Ringling’s belief in bringing art and culture to the city of Sarasota.
St. Armands Circle is located in southwest Florida and sits close to the Gulf of Mexico coast. It is about 60 miles south of Tampa and about 40 miles south of St. Petersburg. St. Armands Circle is located in the city of Sarasota, which is located in Sarasota County, Florida. Businesses on St. Armands Circle proper will have a St. Armands Circle street address so if you set your GPS for one of those you will be able to make your way to the heart of town.

Where to stay in annamariaisland – Guest reviews – Hamilton Family Review

07/26/2017

A special thank you to the Hamilton Family for this awesome review. It was our pleasure having the Hamilton’s as our guests at Absolute Anna Maria.

“We stayed at this condo for 10 perfect days. The condo was great, clean with great appliances, comfortable king sized master suite etc. One minute to an amazing beach! The condo pool was perfect in the evenings. The free Trolley is right outside to take you to a great grocery store next to any “spirits” you need. Lots of restaurants. The sunsets over the gulf is almost indescribable it’s so wonderful. Zero complaints, it’s heaven…..go for it!”

What to do in annamariaisland – Golf – Rosedale Golf Club

07/25/2017

Rosedale Golf Club:

One of my favourite courses to play in all of Florida. Just a 30 minute drive out to the interstate from Absolute Anna Maria. Water on almost every hole makes this one of the most challenging courses in the area.

Rosedale Golf & Country Club boasts beautiful conditions and friendly service that has made it the most popular golf course in Bradenton. The layout is somewhat tight but scenic pockets of nature and stands of trees give it a more spacious feel. The fast greens roll true and are often framed by tricky hazards. Accuracy is the key to doing well on this course as is good shot placement. It’s a golf course that will make you think, but it’s not terribly punishing, which makes it a good round for players who want to get some practice with different types of shots. Water hazards come into play on almost holes and there are strategically placed bunkers as well. One of Rosedale’s most memorable holes, for both its level of difficulty and beauty, is the par-5 12th, which features an elevated, double-tiered green.

What’s on in annamariaisland – Art classes – Island West Gallery – Anna Maria Island

07/24/2017

ISLAND GALLERY WEST – Anna Maria Island – Florida

Established more than 25 years ago by a small core group of local artists on Florida’s Anna Maria Island, our gallery has evolved into a successful artists’ cooperative of nearly thirty members. We offer paintings, photographs, mixed media, ceramic arts, stained glass, pottery, decorative tiles, jewelry, notecards and more. The works of a different artist are featured each month.

The gallery is staffed six days a week by member artists who welcome the opportunity to discuss their art with you. Stop by for a pleasant, relaxing visit and enjoy the many fine works of art on display in two exhibit areas. You’ll discover all the variety and visual stimulation of an art festival in a pleasant gallery setting.

Brenda Alcorn, a retired English teacher from Manatee High School, has become well known locally for her mixed-media art that evolves from her love of nature. In her July Featured Artist Exhibit entitled “A School of Fish,” Ms. Alcorn will show paintings she creates using the Japanese Gyotaku technique of printing with fish. Her recent watercolors and nature photography will also be included.

The Gallery is open Mon – Sat, 10 AM-5 PM
Free Art Demonstrations on Saturdays
during the winter season.
Call 941-778-6648 to check schedule.
