What to see in annamariaisland – Local attractions – St. Armands Circle

07/27/2017

St. Armand”s Circle a must see for anyone vacationing on Anna Maria Island. Enjoy a stunning picturesque drive from Anna Maria Island straight south along Gulf of Mexico drive filled with stunning views of mansions, golf courses, waterfront and wildlife.

Located one block from Lido Beach St. Armand’s circle know for it’s high end shopping and restaurants. Featuring over 140 merchants St. Armands Circle are committed to making your visit as memorable as it is rewarding. Visit for a day or stay for a lifetime; the St. Armands experience is one you won’t soon forget. You want have to travel far to find the world’s treasures; they’re all here on St. Armands Circle!

Today, St. Armands Circle is a hub of activities for the island that is otherwise filled with mostly posh residences. The beach, sitting on Lido Key, on the Gulf of Mexico is only a few blocks away, another excellent feature.

Two other main arteries go through the area and boast shops and restaurants at the points where they connect with St. Armands Circle. Boulevard of the Presidents runs mostly north and south while John Ringling Boulevard runs mostly east and west. This configuration separates the area into four quadrants. Signage and directories use these quadrants to better orient visitors. The Pink Quadrant is to the northwest, the Gold Quadrant is to the northeast, the Aqua Quadrant is to the southeast, and the Purple Quadrant is to the southwest. Along the center of John Ringling Boulevard and the Boulevard of the Presidents are wide medians with park-like features including trees, brick paths, benches, and most interestingly, classic-themed statues. Many of the statues date back to the twenties and reflect John Ringling’s belief in bringing art and culture to the city of Sarasota.

St. Armands Circle is located in southwest Florida and sits close to the Gulf of Mexico coast. It is about 60 miles south of Tampa and about 40 miles south of St. Petersburg. St. Armands Circle is located in the city of Sarasota, which is located in Sarasota County, Florida. Businesses on St. Armands Circle proper will have a St. Armands Circle street address so if you set your GPS for one of those you will be able to make your way to the heart of town.

Where to stay in annamariaisland – Guest reviews – Hamilton Family Review

07/26/2017

A special thank you to the Hamilton Family for this awesome review. It was our pleasure having the Hamilton’s as our guests at Absolute Anna Maria.

“We stayed at this condo for 10 perfect days. The condo was great, clean with great appliances, comfortable king sized master suite etc. One minute to an amazing beach! The condo pool was perfect in the evenings. The free Trolley is right outside to take you to a great grocery store next to any “spirits” you need. Lots of restaurants. The sunsets over the gulf is almost indescribable it’s so wonderful. Zero complaints, it’s heaven…..go for it!”

What to do in annamariaisland – Golf – Rosedale Golf Club

07/25/2017

Rosedale Golf Club:

One of my favourite courses to play in all of Florida. Just a 30 minute drive out to the interstate from Absolute Anna Maria. Water on almost every hole makes this one of the most challenging courses in the area.

Rosedale Golf & Country Club boasts beautiful conditions and friendly service that has made it the most popular golf course in Bradenton. The layout is somewhat tight but scenic pockets of nature and stands of trees give it a more spacious feel. The fast greens roll true and are often framed by tricky hazards. Accuracy is the key to doing well on this course as is good shot placement. It’s a golf course that will make you think, but it’s not terribly punishing, which makes it a good round for players who want to get some practice with different types of shots. Water hazards come into play on almost holes and there are strategically placed bunkers as well. One of Rosedale’s most memorable holes, for both its level of difficulty and beauty, is the par-5 12th, which features an elevated, double-tiered green.

07/24/2017

ISLAND GALLERY WEST – Anna Maria Island – Florida

Established more than 25 years ago by a small core group of local artists on Florida’s Anna Maria Island, our gallery has evolved into a successful artists’ cooperative of nearly thirty members. We offer paintings, photographs, mixed media, ceramic arts, stained glass, pottery, decorative tiles, jewelry, notecards and more. The works of a different artist are featured each month.

The gallery is staffed six days a week by member artists who welcome the opportunity to discuss their art with you. Stop by for a pleasant, relaxing visit and enjoy the many fine works of art on display in two exhibit areas. You’ll discover all the variety and visual stimulation of an art festival in a pleasant gallery setting.

Brenda Alcorn, a retired English teacher from Manatee High School, has become well known locally for her mixed-media art that evolves from her love of nature. In her July Featured Artist Exhibit entitled “A School of Fish,” Ms. Alcorn will show paintings she creates using the Japanese Gyotaku technique of printing with fish. Her recent watercolors and nature photography will also be included.

The Gallery is open Mon – Sat, 10 AM-5 PM
Free Art Demonstrations on Saturdays
during the winter season.

What to see in annamariaisland – Natural attractions – Coquina Baywalk – Anna Maria Island

07/20/2017

Anna Maria Island has it’s own preserve. Located on Bradenton Beach directly across from the Coquina Beach at the southern tip of Anna Maria Island. This little strip of island provides beautiful views of beautiful Sarasota Bay.

Once a spoil island overgrown with non-native plants that greatly reduced its habitat value, Leffis Key is now a shining example of how government and private interests can collaborate to restore and enhance vital saltwater wetlands, essential to the health of a nationally significant estuary.

One of the unique features of the design is a 26-foot high hill in the center of the restored area. This upland feature offers a breathtaking 360 degree view of Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The hill was planted with native dune and coastal ridge plants such as sea oats, beach elder, dune sunflower, southern red cedar, green buttonwood, sea grape, gumbo-limbo, Hercules’ club, Jamaica dogwood and strangler fig. In addition, over 20,000 marsh grass plants, such as smooth cordgrass, saltwater cordgrass and salt jointgrass, were installed along the banks of the tidal ponds. The plant installation was accomplished with volunteer labor that included hundreds of school children, local environmental clubs and citizens.

Site amenities include footpaths that circle and scale the hill, benches, and 1,500 lineal feet of boardwalks that meander through the mangrove forest, with strategically placed viewing platforms penetrating the open water. Interpretive signs describing the various habitats and the respective plant and animal life are located along the paths.
