Menopause The Musical
May 30th – June 10th/2018 Performances at 2:00 7:00 7:30 & 8 PM
Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, writer Jeanie Linders created Menopause The Musical® as a celebration of women who find themselves at any stage of “The Change.” Set in a department store where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale, the all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer “The Silent Passage.” It is a stage in every woman’s life that is perfectly normal.

TripAdvisor Reviews:
      1. This exquisite and fairly new building is a welcome and beautiful addition to the Bradenton community. There is ample parking, including valet, if you wish to use it.There are two stages, and performances year round. We saw a performance of Little Women, and while these actors are not members of Actors Equity, they performed their roles admirably. Following the performance, all of the actors gathered in the lobby to meet and greet the theatre patrons…a wonderful touch. We will certainly return.
      2. Fun filled evening, great venue, strong performers and this was certainly a knee slipper. Choreography outstanding. Unbelievable scene staging switches. A fun filled Birthday for me.
      3. We have season tickets to the MPAC and want to support them. Their productions are good and they deserve our support.

Bridge Tender Inn has it all!
bridge Tender Inn is a short five minute walk from Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals601 Gulf Drive North, Bradenton Beach.

I took this YouTube video on one of our recent visits to the Bridge Tender Inn

Brigid’s Cross — since their inception in 1996, Paul and Peggy/Brigid’s Cross play it all…contemporary Irish music, traditional Celtic folk, country, rock, alternatives and their own originals. When they are not traveling, they spend time in their hometown of Cleveland, Ohio playing at some fabulous local venues. In the colder months, They perform right here in Bradenton Beach, which is their Florida base at The Bridge Tender Inn. Paul is a master violinist while Peggy’s main instrument is the keyboard and she is well recognized for her amazing human beer fountain! We have seen them play many times to an always full house at the Bridge Tender Inn. They are so talented, funny and exude high energy as they interact with the crowd. Bridge Tender Inn is top on our list of dining recommendations for our guests of Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals and especially when Brigid’s Cross is on the schedule.
Not only is this an awesome charity event, but great food and great entertainment too!

  1. Rustic restaurant right on the water overlooking inlet with boats, pier, picturesque clock tower. Sit under the trees on wrought iron seats with awesome views, enjoying great tropical drinks, good service and ample servings of delicious food. Also live entertainment, sports on TV and indoor seating.
  2. We ate here multiple times on vacation and will return! Awesome location with live music and water views. the food was great and drinks flowed well.
  3. Being from Ohio we heard this band called Brigid’s Cross was playing. Well since we’re old and normally are in bed by 9 we decided to arrive and hour and a half before show time at 7 and watch a few songs. After a great meal, a few drinks , and meeting lots of new friends ( they made us dance) we had the time of our life. We stayed till the end! The music was unbelievable and wow did this couple put on a show second to none. I have heard they always have great talent playing at Bridge Tender Inn. Oh by the way next day we were a little sore haven’t had that much fun in a long time. Strongly suggest this place for great food and a great time.

COMING SOON — AN INSPECTOR CALLS ~ by: J.B. Priestly and Directed by Heiko Knipfelberg

DateMay 3– 13, 2018

Where – The Island Players, Inc.
Phone: 941 778-5755

Brief Summary of An Inspector Calls,

Act 1 – Set in 1912 in Brumley, Midlands, UK the Birling family celebrate the engagement of Sheila Birling to Gerald Croft. Sheila’s father, Arthur Birling is pleased and hopes that the marriage will bring the family businesses, two competitors together to lower costs and higher prices. The women leave the room and Mr. Birling lectures Gerald Croft and his son, Eric BIrling about the importance of every man looking out for himself if he wants to get on in life. During this lecture the doorbell rings unexpectedly and the maid announces that an inspector has arrived. Inspector Google says he is investigating the death of Eva Smith, a young woman who committed suicide. Mr. BIrling denies knowing her, but after shown a photo he recognizes her and remembers firing her in 1910 for organizing a strike over workers pay. Birling does not believe he committed any wrongdoing. The investigation moves to Sheila who recalls also having Eva sacked about her manner when served by her in an upmarket department store. Sheila regrets her actions and feels hugely guilty and responsible for Eva’s death. The inspector tells them that Eva Smith changed her name to Daisy Renton. Gerald acts guilty and Sheila notices his worry, she confronts Gerald when the Inspector leaves the room. Gerald reveals to Sheila he had an affair with Daisy Renton.

anna-maria-island-players-theater

Act 2 – Gerald tells the Inspector he had an affair with Eva, but he ended it in the autumn of 1911 and he hasn’t seen her since. Sheila then gives her engagement ring back to Gerald. The Inspector turns his attention to Mrs Sybil Birling, she confesses that she also had contact with Eva, but Eva gave herself a different name to Mrs. Birling. Eva was desperate and pregnant when she approached Mrs. BIrling at a charity she was chairing.  Mrs. Sybil BIrling refused her help  because she was offended by the girl calling herself ‘Mrs Birling’. She tells Eva that the baby’s father should be made entirely responsible and tells Inspector Goole the same. Also, that the father should be made an example of.

Act 3 – Eric is revealed as the father. He stole money from Mr Birling’s office to provide to Eva and is angry at his mother after he learns that she has refused to help Eva. The Inspector tells them that they are all partly to blame for Eva’s death and warns them of the consequences of people not being responsible for each other. After Inspector Goole leaves, the family begin to suspect that he was not a genuine police inspector. A phone call to the Chief Constable confirms this. Next, they phone the infirmary to be informed that no suicide case has been brought in. Gerald, Mr.and Mrs. BIrling congratulate themselves that it was all a hoax and they continue can continue as before. This attitude upsets Sheila and Eric. The phone rings and after Mr. BIrling takes the call he announces to the family that a girl has just died on her way to the infirmary, a police inspector is coming to question them.

The Island Players REVIEWS: TripAdvisor

1. Our second visit to the Island Players Theatre and it will not be our last!

Beautifully maintained little theatre with lots of history – the building was originally a family home located in Palmetto and was relocated to its current site – a real feat of civil engineering!
Very comfy seating with (I am pretty sure) no seats that have obstructions.
Staff and volunteers clearly love what they do and that comes across from the box office to the stage manager to the actors!
Can’t wait for a return visit if we are in the area when there is a production running!

2. Attended the Island Players show “Play On” It was delightful. I don’t much care to go to the theater, but I would recommend this show for all guys that need points at home.
Take your lady or lady friend to see this show. It ain’t Broadway but it was great community theatre.
3. What a fun time in a great atmosphere where everyone is so nice, delightful and hard working. This is a “must-visit” for a wonderful night out.

What’s On On Anna Maria Island – Yoga classes – YOGA ON THE ISLAND! – Anna Maria Island

YOGA ON THE ISLAND!

ISLAND YOGA SPACE — 9805 Gulf Drive, Anna Maria

Located at the north end of beautiful Anna Maria Island, Island Yoga Space offers daily classes and creative workshops in a unique, tranquil setting. Their upstairs studio, directly across from the white sands and turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico, is the Island’s original and premier location for practicing yoga.

Take the free trolley from Anna Maria Island Beach Rentals – located at 601 Gulf Dr. N. Bradenton Beach, Fl 34217

They offer a variety of yoga disciplines. Their daily classes include Vinyasa Flow, Restorative yoga, Gentle Yin yoga, SUP Yoga and Meditation. Whether you are an area local or vacationing in paradise, I’m sure you won’t regret choosing Island Yoga Space and becoming part of their island kula.

I have been to various spas for services over the years, but on my last visit to the island I was really missing my yoga classes at home so I decided to try the drop-in yoga at Island Yoga Space.. It was a lovely contrast/complement to what I am used to in Toronto, Canada. The studio has a great spirit and the classes are varied. I found it has a local following and there are many that come for the winter or on their shorter vacation. The studio provides mats, blocks, straps, etc. The place was jam-packed, but I felt quite at home — I almost talked myself out of going because, for some odd reason I was nervous about being on my own, but I am so glad I went. The owner, Cindy, is a marvelous teacher; I particularly enjoyed how she explains the physiological purpose of certain poses and infuses intentions into the practice. I have a lot of respect for Yogis who keep integrity while being able to run a business. Cindy is fantastic and has many different and interesting workshops to keep her students engaged. She certainly is inspiring.

Overall the studio is welcoming and peaceful.. I highly recommend it and will I be back again? Absolutely!

What’s Happening On Anna Maria Island – News – Record Number Of Dolphins Born

Our guests from Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals have been tell us more than ever that they have enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching the dolphins play. This article will explain why.

More dolphin calves have been born in Sarasota Bay so far this year than in any of the past 47 years, according to the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program.

Nineteen births have been documented so far in the bay, which five generations of resident dolphins call home.

Newborns weigh between 30 to 45 pounds and are typically born tail first, according to the SDRP.

Female dolphins from 6 to 48 years old have given birth in the bay, including the oldest known bottlenose dolphin, Nicklo, now 67.

Dolphins are pregnant for 12 and a half months and their labor lasts between 45 minutes to a few hours. Researchers have noted local dolphins having up to 10 calves in their lifetime. Paternity testing has shown males to have sired up to six calves each in the bay.

In keeping with baby dolphins being called “calves,” female dolphins are known as “cows” and males are “bulls.” They swim in pods, however, not herds.

Researchers began studying Sarasota Bay dolphins in 1970 under the sponsorship of Mote Marine Laboratory and the Chicago Zoological Society. It is the world’s longest-running study of a wild dolphin population.

The SDRP asks boaters to be especially careful of newborn dolphins, which lack the skills and experience to avoid boats and have to surface more frequently to breathe than older dolphins. Mothers can also be more distracted with newborns and cannot always get out of the way of approaching boats. Dolphins along the central west coast of Florida frequent shallow waters where they may be unable to dive below approaching boats.

Dolphin Tips

**DO**

Stay at least 50 yards away from dolphins when viewing from a vessel or watercraft.
Limit time spent observing dolphins to 30 minutes or less.
Avoid making loud or sudden noises near dolphins.
Move away slowly if a dolphin’s behavior indicates the animal is stressed or disturbed.
Book wild dolphin viewing tours with businesses that responsibly view dolphins in the wild and help dolphin conservation. See Facebook “Don’t Feed Wild Dolphins” and “Dolphin SMART.”
Put your vessel’s engine in neutral if in the close vicinity of dolphins.
Call for help if you hook a dolphin on a fishing line or see a stranded or injured dolphin – Mote Marine’s Stranding Investigations Program, 941-988-0212.

**DON’T**

Pursue, swim with, pet or touch wild dolphins, even if they approach you.
Feed or attempt to feed wild dolphins.
Encircle or entrap dolphins with vessels.
Direct a vessel or accelerate toward dolphins with the intent of creating a pressure wake to bow or wake-ride.
Separate mother/calf pairs.
Drive watercraft through or over groups of dolphins.

With Gulf temperatures averaging 84 degrees and 361 days of sunshine per year the surrounding waters of Anna Maria Island are known as the nursery because of the large number of dolphins that raise their young here.
