Exciting news! – – The Sarasota Bradenton Ferry water taxi service will be launching in early 2018. The service will connect downtown Sarasota, Anna Maria Island and downtown Bradenton.

The ability to provide this innovative service has been exclusively permitted to the Sarasota Bradenton Ferry Company. With the approval by all municipalities concerned, key officials see this as an economic opportunity for the region and hope to see a much need reduction to traffic. The drive between Sarasota and Bradenton Beach (Anna Maria Island) can take approximately 35 to 40 minutes without traffic, but the commute by water is expected to take just 28 minutes.

The Sarasota Bradenton Ferry Co. plans to launch its first 149-passenger vessel to provide transportation from the 10th Street Pier in downtown Sarasota, Bradenton Beach Bridge Street Pier and the Bradenton Riverwalk.

We are really excited about this new service for our guests. To catch the Ferry at the Bradenton Beach City Street Pier is only a five minute walk from Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals located at 601 Gulf Dr. N. Bradenton Beach 34217.

The ferry will work for commuters, locals and tourists. To begin, the group will operate one boat with plans for 30 daily voyages in the future. As of now the vessel will run all day, but a final schedule is still being worked on. The company wants all riders to feel comfortable and be able to depend on their schedule. They have set up a Facebook account and website. Their website displays a survey for residents and visitors of the Sarasota-Bradenton area with a goal to allow input from the community and to start building local relationships.

The Ferry is all been about community needs: expanding options, alleviating gridlock and providing convenience or leisure. They plan to release updates on Facebook between now and their anticipated 2018 launch, which will include ways for the community and its leaders to get more involved. Because of the scale of this marine operation the company is taking a careful approach, working with local conservation organizations as well as the U.S. Coast Guard. This will ensure the launch of the safest and most environmentally friendly use of waterways for transportation.

There are concerns being voiced about very few parking spaces available for cars at the boat ramps. The ferry company is working with ride sharing companies and local free-rides to solve the issue. They hope more employees travelling to work will take advantage of the ferry.

Only time will tell. As owners on Anna Maria Island we are very excited and can’t for this ferry service to be up and running.
